New Board Directors

The Balboa Park Committee of 100 is proud to introduce new board members, Laura Burnett and Vicki Estrada.

Laura Burnett

Burnett is a skilled landscape architect at the firm attention2 with her husband and fellow landscape architect, Martin Poirier. Her local projects have included Torrey Pines (city) Park and Caltrans District 11 headquarters in Old Town. She has served on many nonprofit and municipal boards, including the California Urban Foresters Council, San Diego Commission for Arts & Culture’s Public Art Committee and San Diego Historical Resources Board.

Vicki Estrada

As owner of Estrada Land Planning, Estrada is best known as the author of the 1989 Balboa Park Master Plan and followup Central Mesa Specific Plan. Other design projects have included transit stations and facilities in Santee, Southwestern College and Chula Vista’s bayfront trolley station, the Camp Pendleton exterior architecture plan, downtown San Diego streetscape manual and Ocean Beach Skate Park. Her other local memberships include San Diego Canyonlands, Groundwork San Diego and Media Arts Center (she plays piano in a local band).

Kathleen (Kay) Jahn Rippee

C100 also wants to remember Kathleen (Kay) Jahn Rippee, a long-time board member who died at the age of 103 on Aug. 29, 2025, in San Diego. She was an avid reader, horse racing fan, bridge player and devoted traveler — including annual treks to Ashford Castle in Ireland. For C100, she regularly helped at the annual luncheons and worked the raffle desks. She was married to the late William Rippee and they had two children, the late William Jr., and Lynn Silva, who is a current C100 board member. She is also survived by five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
